Therapy for Women in Wilson, NC

Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy | Wilson, NC

Walk & Talk therapy is offered to established clients after at least one in-office or virtual session to ensure safety, comfort, and clinical fit.

What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walk & Talk therapy is exactly what it sounds like: we meet outdoors and walk side-by-side while engaging in therapy.

Instead of sitting across from each other in an office, we walk at a comfortable pace, talk, pause when needed, and let movement support the work we’re doing together. Sessions are conversational, collaborative, and flexible—there’s no expectation to keep moving the entire time. We can stop, sit, or slow down whenever your body needs it.

This option is especially helpful if:

  • Sitting still feels uncomfortable or activating

  • You enjoy being in nature

  • Eye contact feels intense or distracting

  • You feel more regulated when you’re moving

  • You want therapy to feel more natural and less clinical

Walk & Talk therapy is offered for individual sessions and can be integrated with trauma-informed, somatic, and anxiety-focused work.

  1. Reduces pressure and intensity
Side-by-side walking often feels less vulnerable than sitting face-to-face, making it easier to open up.

  2. Supports nervous system regulation
Gentle movement can help reduce stress, release tension, and create a sense of grounding.

  3. Helps anxious or “overthinking” minds
Walking can interrupt rumination and support clearer, more connected thinking.

  4. Encourages embodiment
Being outdoors and in motion helps reconnect you with your body, not just your thoughts.

  5. Feels more natural and human
Therapy can feel like a real conversation instead of a performance or “interview.”

The gentle rhythm of walking, combined with fresh air and nature, can support grounding, presence, and clarity — especially for women who feel “stuck in their head,” overwhelmed, or emotionally shut down.

Benefits of Walk & Talk

Where are we Walkin and Talkin?

(or sitting)

Walk & Talk sessions take place in quiet, accessible outdoor locations in Wilson, North Carolina. We decide together what location is best for you. Routes are chosen with comfort, privacy, and accessibility in mind. We can adjust pacing, distance, and location as needed.

Common locations include:

  • Whirli-Gig Park

    • Walking around the park or sitting on a bench or grassy area.

  • Lake Wilson

    • A walking trail with lake views and seating areas nearby.

  • Rotary Park

    • A paved walking trail with options to sit and pause as needed.

  • Office-to-Downtown Wilson Walk

    • Meeting at the office and walking through quieter downtown areas.

Additional locations can be discussed based on comfort, accessibility, and privacy.

If you would like to be out in nature but not walk, we can sit at a park bench, get a blanket to sit out at a park, or there are outdoor options at the in-person office site (click here to see those options).

  • Go to the Contact page to either self-schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation, a 60 minute virtual/in-office session, or use the contact form to send me a message.

I do require at least one in-office or virtual session before beginning Walk & Talk.

  • Yes. Clients are required to complete at least one in-office or virtual session before beginning Walk & Talk therapy.

This allows us to build rapport, review safety considerations, and ensure Walk & Talk is an appropriate fit for your needs.

  • If you feel more grounded when moving, struggle with anxiety, or want a less traditional therapy experience, it may be a great fit. You also can do a mix of Walk & Talk and office or virtual sessions. You are not stuck with this option.

We can talk through options during our first session.

  • If we know in advance the weather conditions will be uncomfortable or unsafe, we can switch to an in-person office or virtual session the same day/time or reschedule.

Weather can change suddenly. If weather changes while we are already walking:

If it's unsafe (lightning, heavy rain, ice, strong winds), we’ll return to the office, our cars or reschedule.

If the weather is safe but variable, we may continue if you’re comfortable. (Only for light/wind)

    • Water

    • Comfortable shoes and clothing suited for walking and for the day’s temperature/weather conditions (ex. exercise clothes/tennis shoes, layers if it’s cold, breathable clothing if hot, rain gear if needed)

    • Optional: towel (if we sit on the ground), hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, snack, clothing with pockets for keys/phone

  • Outdoors, full confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. If we see someone either of us knows, I will not disclose our professional relationship. If any interaction occurs, I will keep it minimal, and we can discuss ahead of time how you’d prefer I handle these situations.

We’ll review your preferences at our first session — and you may adjust these anytime.

  • We can do that too. We can meet at an outdoor location to sit on a bench, a blanket in the grass, or the office space has a back porch (see more here for the outdoor office space options).

  • Yes. Walk & Talk sessions are flexible and can be adapted to meet comfort, mobility, or stamina needs. Sitting options are always available.
